Trends from the 80's...

As we continue to look back at some of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom trends of the last 40 years, we come to the 80’s. The decade of ultimate pop culture, big hair and boom boxes, lets see what design trends hit our homes…

Soft pastels were the colour of the 80’s, as we enthusiastically waved goodbye to the bold yellows, oranges and greens that preceded them. However, bright looks and bold geometric patterns were also popular, with some rooms displaying abstract art and using neon colours. I guess it just depended how bold you wanted to be with your decorating…

Wallpaper in girly florals, more dainty than the big flowery patterns of the 70’s and in dusty pastel shades lined the walls of bedrooms across the country. Also, frills and ruffles were applied to everything from cushions and curtains to tablecloths, in the bedroom and in the living room.

You may have gone for a ‘shabby-chic’ style in your home with a white, distressed, antique look or maybe your kitchen had a ‘country style’ or those glistening white laminate cabinets? Either way, a kitchen table was a must-have at this time and now-a-days we’re seeing more kitchen tables coming back with the development of open-plan kitchens…

And when it comes to bathrooms, oversized built in cabinets would hang from the walls of many a bathroom across the country, taking up unnecessary space. It’s a good job times have moved on and sleeker, more functional storage spaces have been developed.
